This was EURIM's first working party and study of the second draft European Directive on the Protection of Personal Date led to EURIM's initial Briefing Paper in 1995. In 1996 the WP reconvened to consider its response to the Home Office consultation on implementing the Directive in the UK. The group subsequently worked with Parliamentarians during the passage of the 1998 Data Protection Act and then (with the active involvement of the DP Registrar's Office) focussed on various aspects of its implementation. The WP's last major exercise, in 2001, concerned Internet Privacy models. By this time the emphasis for policy consideration had shifted towards privacy, identity and data sharing issues and these are now being taken forward in other EURIM working groups.
