Background
This WP was formed in 1998 to
provide a focus for discussion of issues surrounding the regulation
of the Internet, especially in the context of several inter-related
draft European Directives which, at least in their early versions,
were at times mutually contradictory. The working party's outputs covered comment on these drafts
with a particular focus on the Electronic
Commerce Directive and a valuable set of guidance notes on
some practical issues that were getting in the way of effective
decision making.
