This WP was set up to respond to the DTI's consultations on a range of issues which led to the Electronic Communications Act. These consultations resulted in the section on Cryptography Service Providers being dropped from the draft Bill and reconsidered separately by the Home Office along with their review of the Interception of Communications Act. New proposals subsequently emerged for what became the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act. The EURIM group worked closely with both the DTI and the Home Office bill teams during the consultation period, passage of both sets of legislation and the subsequent implementation, much of which was effected through secondary legislation.
