Introduction and Terms of Reference

Objectives:

To identify and promote action to ensure that the UK has globally competitive lifelong learning networks by 2010 (DfES target announced in 2002) and a world-class knowledge and information skills base.

Target Outcomes

Action to rationalise employer consultation frameworks relevant to ICT skills and Learning Networks, for vocational courses and curricula (at all levels)
Remove barriers to participation of UK publicly funded players in global ICT skills and learning networks (including those leading to internationally recognised qualifications)
Remove barriers to private sector investment in higher level skills development

Recent Progress

A great many groups are calling for action in this space but none appears willing to drive a political exercise to ensure it happens, as opposed to rehashing past debates in new forums. The formation of the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills may give a new point of leverage to secure action in this space. This group has been tasked to organise a round table of those calling for action to see if anything has changed.
