Identity Management &
Information Assurance:
Keys to the Kingdom?

EURIM-APGIF Parliamentary Showcase
on Identity Management and Information Assurance

Held in the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House
on Tuesday 10 June 2008 4pm to 8pm

Introduced by Margaret Moran MP
and Philip Dunne MP

Recent high profile losses of personal data have placed millions of citizens at risk of identity fraud and destroyed trust in the ability of government (even more than the private sector) to safeguard the information in its care. Meanwhile the amount of personal data collected and stored grows daily, with the objective of improving public services, health care, welfare, consumer protection and national security, and we increasingly depend on digital identities to buy, sell, travel and even enter buildings. Large organisations and whole industries have operated successful, secure, cross-boundary identity management and data sharing systems for many years, and operational examples will be on display at the Showcase. The Public Sector can learn from their experience and help restore confidence in the online world.

The showcase was introduced by the joint hosts, Margaret Moran MP (EURIM Chair) and Philip Dunne MP (Parliamentary Chair of the EURIM Personal Identity and Data Sharing Group).  Nick Palmer MP spoke briefly about his exercise for Meg Hillier, (the minister with responsibility for ID cards) to look at industry applications.  The Guest speakers were Martin Kearsley, Strategy Director, VocaLink and Duncan Hine, Director of Integrity, Identity and Passport Service.

The event was designed to enable Parliamentarians and invited guests to learn about practical experience with the people and processes, not just the technology used to support these. Demonstrations of proven, large-scale, secure identity management and information assurance systems from both private and public sectors were provided by:

Alcatel-Lucent; Atos Origin and Government Gateway; BT; CSC
DeLaRue, Experian, Edentity, Fujitsu, IdenTrust
Identity and Passport Service, Sapior and VocaLink
